The Tastemaker Top 10 with Erin of Color Me Styled

The Tastemaker Top 10 is a collection of 10 questions asked by me and answered by some of my favorite bloggers. Here they will tell you a little bit about themselves, their blogs, and of course, their favorite foods and restaurants. Today we are talking to Erin, a very busy girl! Not only does she write the lifestyle blog Color Me Styled, but she is also a founding member of the Windy City Blogger Collective and she runs her own business... amazing!

Name: Erin Bassett

Blog: Color Me Styled

Location: Chicago, IL

In a few sentences, tell us a little bit about your blog: Color Me Styled is a lifestyle blog designed to Inspire to Make Everyday. That means, each post I publish is supposed you inspire my readers to make a delicious home-cooked meal, make an easy craft/DIY project, make a killer outfit for date night... basically how to make your day amazing. I publish recipes, style guides, outfits, DIY projects, inspiration posts, party tips and really anything else that makes me happy!

Now, tell us about your...

1. Favorite meal, food, or cuisine:
I don't want to sound like a 7-year-old but, pizza. Thin crust, wood fired, little sauce and fresh toppings with a glass of red win... it really doesn't get any better.

2. Least favorite meal, food, or cuisine:
Besides being allergic to pistachios I haven't found a food that I won't at least try. I don't love really briny tastes so things like olives, capers and some oysters would make my "I'd rather not" list.

3. Favorite restaurant in your city:
This feels like a trap. I've literally been to a thousand delicious restaurants in Chicago. A hidden gem that I always tell people about is TWO, the food is excellent and the interior is so cool. Everything used to outfit the restaurant is recycled, on it's second life, hence "TWO".

4. Favorite restaurant outside of your city:
I used to live in Santa Cruz, CA and there are a taquerias around every corner. I miss walking down the street to Los Pinos (The Pines) for tacos. Then there is a street tucked away in San Francisco called Belden Place with 8 restaurants that are all delicious and you feel like you're on a Parisian side street.

5. Favorite food memory: I owe my love for food to my parents. My Mom taught me my love for home-cooked meals and my Dad my love for trying the very best restaurants. On vacations our family M.O. was to walk through the town, or more often, the neighborhood of Manhattan and find the restaurant with the longest line. We'd wait in it and always had incredible meals. The logic? If locals are waiting for it, we should too. (This was also before sites like Yelp but the logic still holds true)

6. Favorite guilty pleasure food: Bread and butter. Like, a baguette and real butter. Honestly, I'll just keep cutting slices until the whole thing is gone.

7. Favorite ingredient (something you love to cook with, or something you see on a menu and know you have to order): I love cooking pasta because it is a fabulous base for just about any topping you can imagine and if I see Crème Brûlée on a menu I'm ordering it.

8. Favorite kitchen tool, utensil, product, etc.: Tongs. I've got at least 4 pairs. Rubber ones, stainless steel ones, grill ones, they're indispensable.

9. Favorite recipe: Champagne Chicken - it is easy and delicious and impressive to serve.

10. Favorite thing about blogging: Tie. Meeting awesome and inspiring people and being able to share my inspirations with my readers. I love blogging so much that I've made it my business (http://erinmariebassett.com)... I'm a blogger coach helping my clients blog better and balance blogging with their already busy lives!

11. BONUS! Five favorite blogs/blogs that A Squared readers should know about:
This again is tough, I have so many blogs I adore but these are favorites that I think A Squared readers would love too... if they don't already!
Project Soiree (http://www.projectsoiree.com)
Foxtail and Moss (http://www.foxtailandmoss.com/)
The Kitchen Paper (http://www.thekitchenpaper.com/)
Brewed Together (http://www.brewedtogether.com)

Thanks so much for your thoughts, Erin!

  2. This was a really fun Q & A! Bread and butter is totally my guilty pleasure food, too. But even more so bread dipped in seasoned olive oil. Seriously just lock up your baguettes when I'm around!

    1. Agree! A good bread basket is a dangerous way to start a meal.
