Around Here Lately

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a nice weekend.

I'm jetting off to San Diego for work for a very quick 36 hours this morning, which is always in interesting way to start off the week. I'm back tomorrow night, but in the meantime wanted to share a few snapshots from the past few weeks with you.

Here's what has been going on around here...

My birthday party! A handful of my good friends joined Alex and me for a birthday toast at City Winery in Chicago's West Loop.

We found a new westside hangout: Emmit's Irish Pub at the intersection of Grand/Halsted/Milwaukee. It's a great low key neighborhood bar.

Kit from The Kittchen invited a few blogging friends over for a grilled cheese tasting party as a preview of her new book The Gourmet Grilled Cheese. Read more about that here.

And speaking of Kit, she and I recently attended Yelp Chicago's Walk on the Wild Side party at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (after a drink and some our favorite cheese curds at Farmhouse). There were hundreds of Yelpers there in fun animal costumes and tons of vendors giving out product samples. Two of my favorites are pictures above: Mini lobster rolls from Shaw's Crab House and cocktails from 2 Gingers Whiskey. Kit wrote a great recap of the event and being a Yelp Elite (like we both are) here. And you can always check out my reviews on Yelp! here.

And finally, this weekend Alex and I joined our friends Tara and Nick at Ryan Field in Evanston for our first (and likely, only) football game of the season. We were there to cheer on my alma mater (and Tara's too) the Syracuse Orange as they took on Northwestern... it was a fun night, but the game itself did not go well. A group of little boys behind us even started chanting "Awful Orange, awful Orange!" at one point. Regardless, it was still fun to see our team live and in person here in the Midwest-- it doesn't happen often!

When we got home from the game it was getting late so we decided to order pizza and we tried D'Agostino's for the first time. I was kind of blown away by the quality of this delivery pizza! I tried a yummy Greek-style thin crust with feta and red peppers while Alex went for pepperoni deep dish. He considers himself a bit of a Chicago-style pizza aficionado and ranked it the second best he has had in the city. Not bad! Maybe he should guest post on some of his faves!?

And that sums it up! I'm back in the air tomorrow, but remember you can always stay up to date on our goings on via Instagram too!
