My Top 10 Post-Holiday Detox Ingredients

I don't know about you, but I am feeling like quite the fatty after weeks of drinking at holiday parties and being surrounded by treats at all times.  Now that we have purged our apartment of any leftover cookies and candy, I am ready for a fresh start with our diet.  I have complied a list here of 10 ingredients I intend to start cooking with (and a few recipes too) in order to kick off our post-holiday detox:
  1. Lemons -- Lemons have some amazing health benefits.  They are full of vitamin C, help restore your body's pH, support healthy bacteria, and help rid your body of toxins. Orzo Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette
  2. Garlic -- Garlic is packed with antioxidants and can help your body fight of bad bacterias and viruses.  Plus, it's a great way to add tons of flavor to any meal. Roasted Spicy Lemon Broccoli
  3. Apples -- They're delicious eaten raw or cooked and pack an amazing amount of natural antioxidants: vitamins E and C, fiber, and folic acid.  They may actually keep the doctor away. Baked Apples
  4. Legumes -- Beans are packed with healthy protein and fiber, which will stabilize your energy and aid your body in digestion. Vegetarian Pasta e Fagiole
  5. Oranges -- They'll boost your metabolism and are a great natural source of immunity-boosting vitamin C. A win-win. Orange Chicken Salad
  6. Onion -- The natural amino acids in onions are also essential for flushing toxins from your body.  And you can use onions in so many recipes that it's a super easy healthy ingredient to work into your new year diet. Chicken in Red Wine Sauce
  7. Carrots -- Beta carotene, vitamins, and minerals can all be found in carrots, which is why they are always a favorite among detox diets. Roasted Root Vegetables
  8. Brussels Sprouts -- Even if they had 0 healthy benefits, I would still love them!  Load up on brussels sprouts and enjoy their health benefits too: protein, calcium, potassium, and vitamin A! Brussels Sprouts Salad
  9. Almonds -- Although my hubby's allergies may prevent him from partaking, almonds are a detox superfood.  They are chock full of vitamin E, riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, vitamin B-6, folates, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium.  Any other questions? Healthier Homemade Granola
  10. Cinnamon -- Who says that desserts have to be bad for you too?  Incorporate cinnamon and enjoy a variety of antioxidants and metabolism boosters naturally found in this spice. Spiced Pumpkin Seeds
Of course these are only 10 of many great ingredients you can start cooking with to jumpstart your New Year detox diet.  I selected them because they are so easy to incorpoarte into any meal and a few of them (like brussels sprouts and almonds) are among my favorite foods, regardless of their health benefits.  Glamour UK compiled a great list of the 50 best detox foods-- some that you have heard of and some that will be totally foreign!  Check out the full list here and happy cooking and eating in 2013!

  3. Eating nutritious foods and having a healthy lifestyle could help you out in maintaining the natural glow of skin and, could also prevent wrinkles from appearing on your face. Nothing beats the natural way of beautifying yourself, just be responsible and discipline enough to live a healthy life.

  6. I didn't know Cinnamon was included. No wonder my mom loves putting cinnamon on her dishes! And whenever we eat detox foods, we drink tea because it's high in antioxidants too! Thank you for all the information.

  7. Very good list. Not to mention the recipes that go with it. I like the idea that you included recipes that contain the detox ingredients. 'Cause I don't think that people would eat these ingredients as it is.
