Weekend Recap: Festival Season in Chicago

Another great summer weekend on the books, folks!  Alex and I stayed put in Chicago this weekend and enjoyed some much needed downtime.  We ran a few errands and got some work done around the house, and finally spent some long overdue time catching up with friends.  We're headed out of town soon for a little bit of R&R, so it was great to check a few things off the To Do List this weekend.  We captured the weekend in a few photos below... how did you spend yours?

A leisurely Saturday lunch at Wow Bao in the middle of running some pre-vacation errands.

Summer in Chicago is festival season.  There's always a street fest going on in some neighborhood on any given weekend.  Lollapalooza was in full swing downtown so we headed north to Wrigleyville Summerfest to spend some long overdue time with Alexis, Bri, and Nick.  The summer has been so busy that we haven't them for over a month!

You may also remember that our last summer festival experience was a bit of a bust when we went for the sole purpose of seeing Mike & Joe perform and alas, they were clearing the stage when we arrived at Old St. Pat's.  We made up for it this weekend and saw them play a full set of everything from "Hey Jealousy" to "Pumped Up Kicks" and they didn't disappoint.

This weekend my handy husband also got to work hanging some artwork that we have been waiting ages to display in our bedroom.  I'm obsessed with these vintage CTA posters (as you can see, they sort of resemble that great Alexander & Co. customized poster that we bought as a wedding gift for ourselves).  I love the colors and the vintage feel and with our super high loft ceilings they really bring the room together and make a nice focal point on that previously bare wall.

Didn't he do a great job?  I think it looks awesome!

And finally, having super ripe fruit around my house seems to be a running theme lately.  Not wanting anything to go to waste (and aiming to keep myself healthy and my blood pressure down) I made a great breakfast smoothie.  It's easy and fat free with lots of fruit, calcium, and protein so it was a perfect pre-workout breakfast.

Greek Yogurt Smoothie

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/3 cup strawberries, diced
  • 1/2 peach, diced
  • 6 oz. nonfat Greek yogurt, vanilla flavored *I prefer Chobani-- and one of those single serving cups works perfectly
  • 1/4 cup skim milk

Add all ingredients to a blender and pulse until all ingredients are combined and mixture is smooth.  Enjoy!
